Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Grower to join our greenhouse production team. This role supports the Head Grower in achieving optimal crop performance, yield, quality, plant health, and operational efficiency within a high-tech greenhouse production system.

The Junior Grower will assist with crop management, climate monitoring, irrigation and fertigation, crop protection, biological control, data collection, quality execution, and daily production coordination. This role will work closely with the Head Grower, Greenhouse Supervisors, Biocontrol, Irrigation, Quality/Food Safety, Maintenance, Production Planning, Sales, and other teams to ensure crop activities are executed according to established standards.

The ideal candidate is observant, analytical, proactive, and eager to develop technical growing expertise. This role offers the opportunity to build the knowledge, skills, judgment, and decision-making abilities needed to advance into a Grower position.

Primary Responsibilities

Crop Management & Monitoring:
Monitor tomato crop development, plant health, and production data. Identify trends, nutrient deficiencies, pests, diseases, and other crop concerns, and support crop steering strategies to achieve yield and quality targets. Communicate key findings and risks to the Head Grower.

Climate & Irrigation Management:
Monitor greenhouse climate conditions, irrigation schedules, EC, pH, and drainage. Support climate and irrigation adjustments by providing crop observations and recommendations in coordination with the Irrigation Supervisor.

Crop Protection & Biological Control:
Support IPM, biological-control programs, and crop-protection trials. Collaborate with the Biocontrol Supervisor to monitor crop conditions and support necessary adjustments.

Crop Execution & Operations:
Translate the Head Grower’s strategy into daily crop priorities and coordinate with Greenhouse Supervisors to ensure activities meet established standards. Provide technical guidance to crop teams, monitor labor performance and costs, support standard operating procedures'(SOPs), and participate in production meetings. Coordinate with the Packhouse team to optimize harvesting and monitor pack-out rates.

Crop Quality & Production Standards:
Monitor crop and harvest quality, verify compliance with activity and inspection standards, and follow up on corrective actions in coordination with Quality Assurance.

Leadership, Communication & Compliance:
Collaborate across departments to communicate crop conditions, address production risks, and ensure follow-through. Support team development, labor planning, payroll validation, and performance management while promoting accountability and teamwork. Ensure compliance with company, regulatory, food safety, worker safety, and biosecurity requirements.

Greenhouse Start-Up & Crop Transitions:
Coordinate end-of-cycle cleanup, sanitation, and greenhouse preparation. Support start-up activities, verify readiness for new crops, and coordinate plant deliveries and material shipments.

New Greenhouse Construction & Start-Up:
Support greenhouse construction, commissioning, and operational readiness by providing crop-production input and identifying potential impacts to production. Assist with establishing growing standards, procedures, and crop plans for new greenhouse operations.

General Support:
Perform additional duties, projects, and assignments as needed to support greenhouse production, crop performance, and the overall success of the growing team.

Minimum Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, Agriculture, or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in greenhouse production, horticulture, agriculture, plant science, or a related field
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required
  • Experience in supervision and leadership, including directing teams, developing employees, promoting accountability, and supporting performance
  • Knowledge of plant growth, crop production, climate management, irrigation/fertigation, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and biological controls
  • Strong understanding of crop monitoring and plant health; high-wire crop experience preferred
  • Strong analytical, observational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret crop data, identify trends, and support production forecasting and root-cause analysis
  • Strong organization, accountability, initiative, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced greenhouse environment and collaborate across teams
  • Commitment to food safety, worker safety, biosecurity, and responsible growing practices
  • Demonstrated interest in developing technical expertise and advancing toward a Grower position
  • On-site position based in Amado, AZ

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in organic production systems
  • Knowledge of greenhouse crop forecasting and production data analysis
  • Familiarity with high-wire tomato or other high-wire greenhouse crops
  • Knowledge of greenhouse climate-control systems
  • Familiarity with irrigation, fertigation, EC, and pH monitoring
  • Knowledge of IPM and biological-control programs
  • Ability to monitor crop performance, yield, quality, and pack-out rates
  • Exposure to greenhouse start-up, crop transitions, or new greenhouse construction
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and increase operational efficiency
  • Knowledge of greenhouse production standards, SOPs, food safety, and biosecurity practices
  • Demonstrated interest in developing toward a Grower-level position
