PRESS RELEASEWholesum Springs Into Tomato Goodness with Seasonal Organic Tomato Pack

AMADO, ARIZ., March 14, 2022 — Wholesum, Fair Trade Certified growers and shippers of organic fresh produce, is announcing the launch of a Spring-themed sustainable pack of organic, Fair Trade Certified tomatoes on the vine.  The pack will hit retail shelves just in time for April (Earth month) and will be available through the Spring season, bringing the social and environmental components of sustainability to the forefront for consumers.

The seasonal pack highlights tomato goodness through many of its elements. Utilizing Earth-friendly material, the pack is composed of a recyclable corrugated formed tray with a biodegradable band. It is part of a larger line of sustainably packed organic vegetables which Wholesum debuted in early 2021. “We believe Earth month is a great time to amplify the importance of Earth-friendly packaging,” states Ricardo Crisantes, Chief Commercial Officer of Wholesum. “We owe it to the environment to continue improving on this front and we owe it to consumers to make these options available.”Pack of organic tomatoes on the vine in 1lb carton

The tomatoes on the vine are grown in Wholesum’s high-tech greenhouses in Amado, AZ, the same farm that gained recognition as the first Fair Trade Certified farm in the US back in 2016. The band design highlights Fair Trade and “Arizona Grown” through vibrant and eye-catching illustrations that are also inspired by Spring and Earth Day.

“We want to let consumers know that their choice matters. By selecting Fair Trade Certified organic tomatoes in sustainable packaging, they are sourcing responsibly and helping out local communities,” adds Crisantes. Each purchase of Fair Trade Certified produce sends additional premiums back to the farmworker communities where they are grown. Collectively, the workers choose how to spend these funds. In this case, premiums will make it back to the farmworkers in Amado, AZ where subsidized health care, transportation and home improvement projects have been the focal needs.

As an added bonus, the tomato pack comes with a scannable QR code linking to a downloadable tomato recipe book. The recipe book aims at expanding tomato consumption through new usage ideas. “We wanted to inspire consumers to try new and exciting ways to enjoy tomatoes that go beyond the typical salad, sandwich or sauce and truly make them the star,” states Joanna Jaramillo, Wholesum’s Marketing Manager. With their versatility and balanced flavor, tomatoes on the vine are the main ingredient for many of the recipes.
